Research

We co-produce new knowledge on alter-economies through participatory research and academic collaborations.

Participatory design research

We advocate for participatory approaches because we believe that for design to be effective and equitable, it must center the lived experience of those most affected.

Academic collaborations

We are interested in forging alliances between universities and Value Collective Residents, and sharing insights and perspectives with the research community.

Students, professors, or researchers with ideas for a collaboration are welcome to reach out.

Literature Review: “Measuring Non-Financial Value”

This literature review was conducted by Eva Stiverne, Maude Barbeau, and Maxime Robin from HEC Montreal with support from the Value Collective Development Crew. The goal of the research was to find literary resources and existing economic systems (marginal and alternative) based on an exchange function that does not include the presence of a traditional fiat currency.

Design Guide: “Resources and Strategies for Supporting Value-Driven Work”

This design guide was created by the Value Collective Development Crew based on participatory research with Value Collective’s Residents and broader network of value-driven workers. Participants reflected on the types of work that bring them purpose but no money, and the resources they need to better make them happen.
